The following procedures are offered at our Access Center:

  • Angiograms: Angiography is a diagnostic procedure that uses X-rays and contrast dye to visualize the blood vessels. It helps our team identify any blockages or abnormalities in your blood vessels that may be affecting your dialysis access.
  • Angioplasty: Angioplasty is a minimally invasive procedure used to open narrowed or blocked blood vessels. During the procedure, a balloon-tipped catheter is inserted into the narrowed vessel and inflated to widen it, restoring blood flow.
  • Thrombectomy: Thrombectomy is the removal of blood clots from blood vessels. This procedure is performed to clear blockages in your dialysis access caused by blood clots, restoring proper blood flow.
  • Dialysis Catheter Insertion and Maintenance: We offer the insertion of dialysis catheters for temporary access to the bloodstream for hemodialysis treatment. Additionally, we provide ongoing maintenance to ensure the optimal function.
  • Endovascular Fistula Creation with Wavelinq: Endovascular fistula creation is an innovative technique used to create vascular access for hemodialysis without the need for open surgery. Wavelinq is a specific technology that enables this procedure, offering a less invasive alternative to traditional surgical fistula creation.
  • Vein Mapping: Vein mapping is a diagnostic procedure used to assess the quality and suitability of veins for dialysis access. It helps our team identify the most appropriate veins for fistula or graft creation, optimizing the success of the procedure. When considering options for hemodialysis access, there are typically two main choices: fistula and graft.
    • Fistula: a surgical connection made between your artery and vein. This connection allows blood flow from the artery into the connected vein. The high flow from your artery will stretch the vein. This stretched vein will now be capable of delivering the amount of blood flow necessary to provide adequate hemodialysis. It may be in your lower arm or upper arm.
    • Graft: a type of access used for hemodialysis. It is a connection of an artery and vein using a synthetic tube (called a graft). One end of the tube is connected to an artery and the other end of the tube is connected to a vein. This connection allows for high blood flow so it can be used for hemodialysis. They can be in a loop, but many other ways are possible in both the forearm and upper arm.
