Aldosterone in Left Ventricular Hypertrophy among African-American Patients with
End-Stage Renal Disease on Hemodialysis, American Journal of Nephrology 2007;
27:159-163.
ABSTRACT: Recently, serum aldosterone levels have been reported to play a
significant role in cardiac hypertrophy. One study of Japanese patients
correlated aldosterone levels with the degree of left ventricular
hypertrophy (LVH) in those undergoing hemodialysis. However, the role
of aldosterone in LVH in non-Japanese patients with end-stage renal
disease (ESRD) has not been established.

Prevalence of Primary Aldosteronism in Diabetic Patients, The Journal of Clinical
Hypertension, Vol.

EXCERPT: Although primary aldosteronism (PA) has long been considered a rare cause of hypertension, recent reports suggest that the prevalence of PA among hypertensive patients may exceed 10%

FROM THE ARTICLE: Epidemiologic studies show that hypertension (HTN), which can lead to
arteriosclerosis, cerebrovascular disease, coronary disease, and
end-stage renal disease, places a disproportionate burden of mortality
and morbidity on African Americans, with African American women in
particular having the highest incidence.
