Internal medicine is the specialty of medicine concerning the diagnosis and treatment of adults. Often an internist helps a patient by coordinating the care of multiple specialists to treat both acute and chronic illnesses.  Our internists act as both primary care doctors and as consultants for other physicians.

Internists encounter all types of conditions, so, they are often the first to diagnose and treat most health issues. If more specific attention is required (surgical procedures or other specialized care, for instance), they refer patients to specialists. In addition to conducting regular check-ups, our internists commonly see patients with the following conditions:

  • Arthritis
  • Colds/flu
  • Diabetes mellitus
  • High blood pressure
  • Obesity
  • Minor office procedures
  • Asthma and lung/heart problems
  • Some women’s care
